Acts of God – 4000 years of Phallacy

Formed in the mid-nineties by the Alberts brothers, AOA was fueled by their mutual disgust of a conservative, blind society led by religious ideals which, in their eyes, have no place in a modern world. Starting out playing parties and the old, legendary metal clubs of Pretoria, of which there wasn’t many, things weren’t easy for a controversial band, and so towards the end of the nineties, the brothers moved to UK and continued to work on their dream. Finding themselves back in South Africa at the end of 2000, they had to overcome some more challenges the local scene throws at musos, one of which was finding a decent bassist. In 2004, along came William and AOA was complete with the current lineup.

“Our new album, “Acts of God” is without a doubt the greatest musical endeavor I have been involved in. The album is written as one work and best listened to as such. I am thrilled with the diversity of the composition and must emphasize that it was above all, a labour of love; the subject matter, a labour of hate. It is the most crushing and damning condemnation of monotheism I have heard. It is a righteous mimetic scalpel, stabbed with matchless fury, into the virus that is religion. Enjoy.” – William Bishop

In the many years of their existence, AOA has released a total of five albums and demos, making “Acts of God” their sixth release to date. The band has decided to release the album, ironically, on the 25th December, a date that has been used in old and modern religions as a day of celebration. The album will be available online for free, once again giving the middle finger to the powers that be, allowing their art and message to be accessed worldwide and reaching a larger audience than they could hope for by going through the regular, often closed-minded channels.

“Acts of God is our biggest achievement yet as a band. We are very proud of this album. It is the most aggressive, progressive, technical and controversial album we have done to date. It really pushed us musically and sonically. As far as we know we are also the first metal band to take on all three Monotheistic religion (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) in one Album. For this album we wanted a more raw natural sound.  We feel that these days most metal albums are being over produced. We prefer a more old school sound and approach. Our fans always say that they prefer our sound live to our recordings so this time we tried to capture our live sound in the studio. It is an honest album and is a true reflection of our abilities. What you hear is what we played. Since the recoding of Democracy in 2006 the band has really grown as musicians and become a very tight unit due to several tours around South Africa, Botswana and Namibia and High profile shows like Oppikoppi and Rock Against Religion etc.” – Van Zyl Alberts

Promising to be a blasphemous, eye opening album, it is definitely going to raise a few eyebrows, but that is what AOA is about. Listen to it, make up your own mind about it, and don’t let anybody else tell you to do otherwise, or you’ll just end up being another sheep-drone, incapable of thinking for yourself, but then again, if you’re reading this, that’s already highly unlikely.
